1. The Social Network (2010)
The Social Network tells the story of the founding of the social networking website Facebook and the lawsuits that followed thereafter. The movie offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by companies on the path to making it big. It also provides an inspirational reminder that sometimes big companies start small.
2. Fyre: The Greatest Party that Never Happened (2018)
This movie follows the events surrounding the Fyre Festival, the 2017 festival that a young entrepreneur promised would be a luxury music experience on a private island. It turned out to be nothing but a scam. This movie shows the dangers of making big promises but not investing in the end product.
3. Moneyball (2011)
This movie examines the efforts of the General Manager of the Oakland Athletics to assemble a wining baseball team on a limited budget. This movie highlights the importance of being able to adapt, be creative, make difficult decisions and change the way things are typically done. Although this movie is about baseball, you don’t have to be a fan to enjoy and learn from it.
4. The Big Short (2015)
The Big Short focuses on three people who predicted and profited off the 2007-2008 financial collapse. This movie sheds light on the cause of the financial collapse, making very complex financial concepts understandable and even interesting. One main theme is the corrupting power of money, but the movie also conveys the importance of taking risks and standing up for what you believe in, despite facing ridicule from peers.
5. The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Last but certainly not least is The Pursuit of Happyness, the true story of entrepreneur Chris Gardner’s journey from homelessness to business success. This movie emphasizes the importance of never giving up even under very difficult circumstances, something many entrepreneurs can appreciate.
